(DO) Start planning your design BEFORE picking up your cap and gown
This is one is the most overlooked tip, but it's also the easiest tip! Here's the reality - graduation ceremonies occur RIGHT AFTER final exam week. That also means that graduation cap & gown pick up times are only a few weeks before (if that) final exam week. Y'all see where we are going here, right?
The end of your last semester, might be hectic and stressful. Between exam prep, senior design projects needing those last minute touches, final papers going through their final drafts - there's a lot of potential stressors. The last thing you want to do is pressuring yourself to create a cap from scratch during a really stressful time.
The pro tip: Think of or find design inspirations around March (or November for Fall graduations). You don't need to commit to something now, but trust us, creativity shines when it's allowed to sit and mature with some inspirations. By the time you actually get your cap & gown during the peak stress of the semester, you will have a really close idea of what your cap design will look like! The creative heavy lifting is done and instead of adding stress to your final semester, the decorating process can be relaxing and therapeutic!
